About Misfit Pups

Our Motto is if whatever didn’t take them at that time. It wasn’t their time. They have a life to live yet and so much to give. Give a dog love and they will love you back 10 fold. Including saving your life on many levels.

It all started when we adopted Tia Marie a paraplegic Min Pin at the age of 12. She was given a year. We had no idea what to expect, but we found out quickly how special she truly was and how pivotal she would be in our lives. We lost her on January 11th 2022 at 20 years of age.

The word got out within the rescue community about us and the rest is history.  We are Sue and Lary. We along with our pups are a sanctuary for the all too often cast aside Misfit Pups.

I grew up in Cannon Falls Minnesota on a hobby farm until the age of 13 where I took care of chickens, calves, ponies, horses, rabbits and dogs and cats. I was forever trying to save baby rabbits that my dachshund would bring to me as a gift and baby birds that fell from the nest.  I have 2 grown daughters and 2 stepsons and 6 grandchildren.  My professional background is in healthcare from hands-on care, pharmacology,  wound care and administrative roles that I now apply to the care of our special needs pups.

Lary grew up in Winthrop Minnesota where he helped his uncle train Labs and also grew up surrounded by the countless animals that his Mother took in to rehabilitate. You name it, it was probably in his home. He has 2 sons and 2 step daughters and 6 grandchildren. His professional background is in Nutrition and Engineering that he now applies to caring for our pups.

Before our passion to save the “forgotten” ones turned into the sanctuary we individually and collectively helped save, rescue and rehome countless animals. Cats, dogs, bunnies, birds , reptiles etc.

Our pack consists of many breeds and all sizes. All are special needs in some capacity. 2 have been certified as emotional support therapy dogs and we are working on certification for a few others.

We visit nursing homes. Group homes Disabled Veterans and Special needs kids and pet events throughout Minnesota Iowa and Wisconsin ro raise awareness about special needs animals.

All of this is hard work and can be financially taxing but we have committed ourselves to ensuring our pups have a forever home and we help as much as we can in the rescue community and followers with advice and questions regarding care for their pups.
